Honey coloured limestone, a pink door three metres tall and a street narrow enough that the light comes down it like water. Mdina is a walled town where almost nobody lives and almost no cars are allowed, which is exactly why it photographs the way it does.

The old town
A horse drawn carriage waits at the gate, a red roadster sits in a courtyard, and every second doorway is worth stopping at. Linen and bare shoulders suit this light better than anything formal — the town is already doing the work.

The coast
Half an hour from the walls the island turns to cliffs and turquoise water, with golden rock formations standing at the edge of the sand. Two landscapes, one afternoon.

A session, not a wedding day
This was a couple session — the wedding itself was in Serbia. Sessions like this are worth doing: no schedule, no guests waiting, and a place chosen only because you want to be in it. They are also the easiest way to get photographs of the two of you that are not squeezed between the ceremony and dinner.
Tell me about your wedding
If you are planning a wedding or a session in Malta — Mdina, Valletta or anywhere on the coast — write to me with the date and the place.
